The Royal Palace of Caserta
The Royal Palace of Caserta was built by the King of Naples "Carlo di Borbone".
His desire was to build a palace that could stand comparison with the one of Versailles, it has to represent power and grandeur, but also be efficient and rational. The big project was entrusted to Vanvitelli architect and must to included : an immense park, the urban redevelopment of the surrounding zone and the huge and breathtaking aqueduct. The works began in 1752 and were completed in 1845. The long building 249 meters high and 37.83 meters, is made up of 1200 rooms for a total area of 47000 m2 Around it, it stretched a vast park of 3 km, with two long parallel avenues and six fountains adorned with large statues. The park includes two gardens: The Italian Garden and the English Garden, both big projects, such as an artificial lake with a central atoll, used by the young Ferdinand IV for the emulation of naval battles, majestic fountains , rare and unusual plants wanted by masters of European botany. Every detail of the palace has been performed by noted masters of the European art, large and small quirks of the Royals, that made the Royal Palace of Caserta, the most luxurious and opulent palace of world art history.
